FAQ

Can I Contact the Professor via KakaoTalk?

Of course, you can!
I consider KakaoTalk as just another form of messaging, with the added benefit of being free. However, I would appreciate it if you could keep the following guidelines in mind:

Thank you for your understanding! 😊

Recommendation Letter Policy

If you would like to request a recommendation letter, please read the following carefully.

A recommendation letter is a document where I, as a professor, vouch for a student’s potential and abilities. It is my belief that supporting students in their endeavours is a natural duty as an educator. I am always willing to write recommendation letters with a sense of joy and responsibility.

To ensure the quality and authenticity of the recommendations I provide, I kindly ask for your cooperation:
I will only write recommendation letters for students with whom I have interacted through my classes or individual meetings. At the very least, I must have shared some form of experience, such as lectures or discussions, that allows me to recall the student by name and reflect on their qualities when writing the letter.

For students who have not taken my class or had prior meetings with me, please contact me at least one week before your recommendation letter is needed to schedule a meeting. This will give us the opportunity to discuss your goals and experiences.

For general purposes such as scholarships or on-campus and external programmes, please ensure your request aligns with the above conditions.

For overseas study tours, I will only provide recommendation letters if all team members in your group have attended my class or had prior meetings with me.

For overseas universities or graduate school applications, I will write letters exclusively for students who have participated in research or internships under my guidance for at least two months. This allows me to genuinely reflect on the impressions and skills I observed during our time working together. If you are seeking such a recommendation, I strongly encourage you to contact me well in advance to arrange a research or internship opportunity that allows me to accurately and enthusiastically endorse your abilities.

Thank you for understanding, and I look forward to supporting your growth and aspirations.

Applying for a Graduation Project (KOR)

In out lab, students who wish to join the graduation project are available in full-time research intern.

For thesis groups under my supervision, we hold weekly meetings to monitor progress. If progress is insufficient, I plan to issue fail grades to approximately 30% of the current applicants.

Only one types of project structures available:

Full-time research intern:
Students in this category work similarly to graduate students, coming to the lab daily and conducting research from morning until late afternoon. This approach offers the opportunity to earn high grades and gain hands-on experience with various aspects of the lab’s research. It is particularly suitable for students interested in pursuing further studies in graduate school or aiming to enhance their employment prospects. Typically, I supervise 2–3 students per semester under this model.

I aim to work with students who are passionate about their graduation project and eager to create a meaningful sense of accomplishment through their efforts. Given this, students who are not prepared to demonstrate such dedication are at high risk of failing.

Let’s work together to make this a rewarding and fulfilling experience!

Requesting a Consultation

If you’d like to have a meeting, the first step is to schedule an appointment. During the semester, I have designated dates and times for regular consultations.

To make the process easier, please utilize those designated times. You can check the available consultation hours by visiting http://khuis.khu.ac.kr and booking a consultation appointment through the system.

If you are unable to meet during the listed times, you can request an alternative appointment via email. I will inform you of other available slots, and we can arrange a convenient time for the consultation.

Full Enrollment: Course Registration Options

Although the university provides systems like pre-registration to estimate demand for courses, there are always students who cannot register due to limited seats.

While I personally wish for all students to take the classes they want, practical issues such as classroom capacity and maintaining the quality of instruction make it impossible to expand enrollment indefinitely.

For my course, under the condition that classroom capacity allows, I plan to accept additional students up to approximately 10% beyond the official enrollment limit.

If you wish to be considered for these additional spots, please email me before the first lecture with a self-introduction and an explanation of why you need to take this course. Additionally, you must attend the first class.

Students who follow this process will be given an opportunity for a consultation to discuss course registration. After the consultation, I will announce the students who can be added to the course. 😊

How to Ask Questions Related to the Class

For class-related questions, please use the Q&A section on the class bulletin board or ask me directly after class.

Each semester, I hold office hours where I welcome your visits. If you are unable to attend during those times, you can email me to schedule an appointment at a mutually convenient time.

I kindly decline questions sent via KakaoTalk or text messages. While it would be great to explain complex electrical and electronic concepts in a few KakaoTalk lines, it’s far too complicated to address adequately through those channels. Additionally, my typing speed is so slow that I might get frustrated trying to explain in detail.

Please reserve KakaoTalk or text messaging for scheduling appointments or urgent matters.

Thank you for your understanding!
